Short Note on issues of Indian infrastructure

I am basically Home Animal. I spend most of the time within four walls of the home since the last 3-4 years. But In last week, I roamed outside and Notice some important things about the Infrastructure problems of ours. Mainly related to the policy level issues. It shows that Policy level decisions are completely delinked from the Ground reality.

Let me Start with the National Highways - Government brings the FASTag for the hassle-free travel on the Toll Booth. This is basically a barcode sticker which facilitates the cashless transaction on the toll booth. A car Having FASTag don’t have to stop on toll booth. They just pass from booth and Camera automatically scanned the barcode and deduct amount directly from the bank account.

This is a very good initiative but it creates problems rather than solve problems. We all aware about the Long toll booth queue. Govt introduced FASTag in the existing infrastructure and don’t spend resources to expand infrastructure to facilitate the new initiative. Generally, a toll booth has the 4 to 5 lane. Here, One got reserved exclusively for the FASTag and this impose pressure on the other lanes and it only increases the length of the Queue rather than decreasing it. The government should construct a whole dedicated lane on each toll booth for the FASTag vehicles.

Secondly, come to the railways. It called lifeline of ours and it is but the bitter truth is railways follows the two language policy. Rail does announcement only in the English and Hindi. This is a nightmare for the millions of the people. Most of Gujarati Don’t understand neither of two languages. In the high tech era, it's quite easy to move towards four language formula without any cost.

Take Example of the Yoga express that runs through the Ahmedabad- Haridwar. Most of all (80%) travelers in this train is Gujju. Likewise in Ahmedabad - Puri express, Most of Travelers are the Odia and Gujju who don’t understand either English or Hindi. When Railways signboard on the platform follows the three language formula, They should adopt the four language formula for the Train announcement.

Now come to the PMGSY road. It's one of the biggest successful schemes of the rural region. Amidst all claims of the corruption in this scheme, It does a lot for rural India. In recent days, I traveled hundreds of Kilometers on this and notice one common and simple loophole.

PMGSY road basically designed for the 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers. But once the road gets constructed, It increases the village connectivity with the towns. This brings new industries in the rural region. So on one side, PMGSY prove a blessing for the rural but it also bring heavy load movement on this road and it damaged the road. In last week I saw numbers of the fully loaded tractors and Trucks moving this road which are not designed for them. Govt. should enhance the design of the PMGSY road and should design in such a way that can facilitate the truck movement as well.

Whenever I step out form the Home, eyes became scanners and It scanned and analyze a lot of things. One may be called it a blessing but it curse in disguise as it imposes much load on the processor ( brain)
