Secularism – A Myth ?

In recent days, These two words-  Secularism and Indian politics became Inseparable .  Politicians and Their Followers use word “Secularism” Ten times per day on the camera of the media.

People use the word “Secularism” like we use Just Dial : “ Kuch bhi , Kahi bhi , Kabhi bhi” . In current scenario,  Secularism became like a cap which set it size according to who wears it. 

Here , In following part I try to Explain the Word “Secularism” in the context with the Philosophy of the Gandhiji related to the  Religion and Politics. 

Generally, Secularism Defined  as the “Separation of the religion from Politics” (Practically , We try to give equal importance to religion). But, There is the heir line Between the General Definition of Secularism and Gandhiji’s Understanding of that .

 For that We Must have to understand the Inception of the “Modern” Concept of Secularism. State and Religion have Old Relations. Most of the emperors across the world Presented themselves as the Divine authority, As the Agent of God on the earth . Europe Ruled by the Bishops and Pope for nearly Eight century (Italy). During the Period of the renaissance, The Authority o f the Church Questioned by the Society and during the same period ,The Modern Concept of the “Secularism” Raised. Thus the modern concept of the Secularism Raised from the Movement against the Autocratic, Oppressive and Corrupted rule of the Churches.

Since the inception (I mean,  renaissance ) the concept of Secularism is Complex in nature. There was the Scholar Niccolo Machiavelli Who said that : “I am the Anti Church not the Anti Religion” . This line Say Many more things about the Concept of the Secularism.

Now , Come to The context of the Secularism and India , We Have Glorious history of the Rulers like Ashoka (Buddhism) , Akbar( Din E Illahi) etc. All these Rulers Having the Image of the of the Best Rulers of the history and Interesting In all the cases, the state Affairs Deeply Related to the Religion.

General Concept of Secularism is Diverging in the Context of the State , Citizen and Religion while the Gandhi’s Understanding is the Converging  in Nature related to the State , Citizen and Religion. 

 Gandhiji Wrote in his Autobiography that “that those who say that religion has nothing to do with politics, they  do not know mean what is religion ” .  Here , it’s important to note that Gandhi’s Mean of  religion  is not related to the customs of the religion. Gandhi Always Emphasized that , All the religion made for the Harmony of the Mankind.  The All the principals that Gandhiji Follow in his life  Related to the Religion . Here is the List of some :-

• Concept of the Non violence is the center of the Buddhism and Vaishnvism
  
  
• Gandhi’s Practice of the Truth is originally belong to the Hinduism.
  
  
• Gandhi edged on Mean than End which is the concept of the Karma of Bhagavat Gita. (Man have control over his act but not control over the result of the act.)
  
  
• Gandhi’s Ideology of the social up liftment which mean to the service to poor which was from the Old Indian Civilization concept of Daridranarayan.

In Addition , Gandhi also Took part and Support the Religious movement throughout the Independence struggle .  There Was no difference between the Khilaphat movement and Non Cooperation movement during the 1920-22.  Speaker , Audience , venue all the same for both . Same in the case of Akali movement , Gandhi Wrote latter to the akali leaders when Akali got success to get the Key of the Golden temple and Gandhi wrote that : “This is the first Victory of Indian Independence movement” ( Though It’s Religious movement) . On the other hand All Religious Groups Equally took part in the national movement . Was the Freedom struggle not a issue of Only State Affairs ? ( If you look as per current scenario )  but no It was Not !!

Religion is nothing but the Collective Efforts Made by the Society to make some principals which binding to all for the Goodness of the all and that’s why Saints saying that “Dharam insaan ke liye bane hai naki insane Dharam ke liye”. 

Today , On the name of the “Secularism” , We Do not Send help to save the Temples of Camobdia , We can not be a member of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) , We can not Pray in the temple before the Launching of Satellite etc. But We can surely Do meetings with the Imam on the Eve of Election , Can share stage with the Religious Gurus in public meetings , Can Amend the Constitution under the pressure of the Some Religious Community ( Shah banu case) etc.

In media , Many Leaders Frequently use word “Gandhi” and “Secularism” many times in a day and mostly in the wrong aspect in both the cases . 

I Wrote this as per my understanding  , It may be wrong  or right but Today is the 2^nd October and Request to the Citizen and Politicians (If they want to Understand) Please  read and Understand About the Gandhi and His Philosophy in right manner. 

Gandhi “Is” The only Political Philosopher whose didn’t write any political scripts and May be that’s why he said that :  “My life is my Message” .
