Net Neutrality , Zero rating and How Can both Survive Together ?

Net Neutrality

What is Net Neutrality ?

Neutrality mean the no interference of the service provider in the choice of the consumer to use the internet.

As Example , If you purchase the Bottle of the mineral water then it’s right to customer to Use in drink , Use to clean mouth , Use to Make Food etc. In Term of the Internet – Price of water bottle equal to the Price of Data plan ( say 2 GB) and after that consumer can use it for any website.

If there is no net neutrality then Company may charge extra 2 Rs. For Use in Mouth , Extra Rs.5 For the Use of that water to make food etc.

How did net neutrality shape the internet?

It allowed the internet to grow into a truly global network and has allowed people to freely express themselves. For example, you can criticize your ISP on a blog post and the ISP will not restrict access to that post for its other subscribers even though the post may harm its business.

A level playing field on the internet. To start a website, you don't need lot of money or connections. Just host your website and you are good to go. If your service is good, it will find favour with web users. Unlike the cable TV where you have to forge alliances with cable connection providers to make sure that your channel reaches viewers, on internet you don't have to talk to ISPs to put your website online. This is the reason for the growth of the FB , Google etc.

Does Net neutrality mean only Limited to extra charges ? NO

ISP May increase or decrease the speed which is also the violation of the net neutrality . Take As Example , if Airtel have  tie up with Flipkart then Airtel will decrease the speed of the Amazon and Consumer force to purchase form the Flipkart.

Sponsored data and Zero Rating

What ? :- Where bill of the data charge of the internet for the  certain type of the data paid by the sponsor not by the customers.

As Example :- In case of the toll free number , User Have not to pay similar mechanism on internet .

Benefits :- (1) Help to decrease the digital divide – More people will have internet access. (2) Boost the e-Learning , e-Commerce etc.

Some Future Practical Implementation :- Govt. Can make the You tube Video related to education free form the data usage. Mean When you watch that video there will be no deduction form your data pack , Govt will pay for that.

How Both (Net neutrality And Zero rating ) can Survive Together ?

Net neutrality mean , ISP can not charge extra for the Specific Services ( Say Skype) but can provide the Free access of the Some Services ( Like You tube) under the revenue sharing between you tube and ISP.

Net Neutrality mean , ISP can not increase or decrease the Speed of the specific website ( Say FB against Twitter) but Under Zero rating can provide the Free access of the FB to all User .

Net Neutrality mean the , ISP can not restrict the Service of the Some Particular website ( Say Flip kart) but it can give the free access of the Website (Say Amazon) to customers (without increasing speed)

What is Problem in These approach ?

It restrict the Innovation in the Internet as the new player can not afford to Pay money to the ISP for the promotion.

It’s Violation of the principal indirectly as Its give importance to one website over other through free access.
