My viewpoint on PM Modi's Atmanirbhar bharat abhiyan

Imagine you are sitting in 15th row of the stadium and enjoying the cricket match. After some time, a person sitting in 14th row stands up due to certain reasons and starts to enjoy match by standing. What you will do? The natural course of action will be that- you too stand up to enjoy the match as the standing person in front of you obstruct your vision. Now, when you stand up, what will do the spectators sitting in the 16th row? They also have to stand up to enjoy the match and so the 17th, 18th and all.

Now, Let us this analogy to decipher how to global trade works. The stadium is global trade. 1st, 2nd, 3rd….are the nation participating in global trade. The spectator stands up mean participating nation announced to restrict imports. In Global Trade, when one state announced to restrict imports or manipulate currency, all will follows this. In economic jargon, It's called the Beggar thy neighbour ( Read) . It means to make own growth on the cost of others and when all do so, All sink together. So, When You run a campaign to ban ticktok, you cannot and must not expect china to keep imports things and services from India.

Now let me come to the main point, About the PM Modi's Vision of the "Atmanirbhar Bharat". If I have to conclude it in one word, I say - FLAWED.

He says -

"If we are determined then we can reach our goals and no path will be difficult. And today there is a will and there is a way. That is to make India self-reliant. Our combined resolve is so strong that India can become self-sufficient."

"Friends, self-reliance is possible only through inner strength and self-belief. Self-reliance also prepares the country for a tough competition in the global supply chain."

In Simple words, PM Modi himself want to enjoy match by standing and also hope that others will not stand. Everyone knows that this is not how global trade work. When the American president imposes a tariff on Chinese steel, China didn’t take much time to impose a tariff on American agriculture commodity.

Look, I am not saying that we should not Become Atmanirbhar. In fact I am a staunch supporter of this one. But What I am saying is that - When You wants to become Atmanirbhar, You should not hope and expects to be part of Global Chain, Others will not allows you.

Now, let me move to the second point - What is Idea of the PM Modi about "Atmanirbharat Bharat"? It's not clear as he doesn’t speak in detail about that in his speech. Now Let me put some questions regarding that-

Can Indian citizen wear German Maybach goggles or only Titan goggles? Should Indian leave the fascination of Harvard and should study in third-grade Indian colleges? Can PM Modi Promised to upgrade the standards of the colleges like Nalanda and Valabhi in their heydays? Can the Minister go to the USA for his/her heart surgery or not? Can PM Modi travel in German BMW or should shift to Tata cars? I Knows, PM don’t have answers!

Now, Let me comes to the third issue and Most important one. PM Modi put the onus to make "Atmanirbhar Bharat" on the citizen. But, if we want to realize this dream, the Business community has to take larger responsibility and play a major role for that. Sri Aurobindo was the first and foremost supporter of the Swadeshi (before Gandhiji). During the Indian Independence movement, Swadeshi was the key agenda of national leaders. Most of the Leaders address the Indian to opt the Indian made things and boycott British. But Sri Aurobindo also warned the Indian business community. Aurobindo writes - Indian businessmen should not sell the spurious quality of products and should not make skyrocketing profits in the pretext of the "Swadeshi" campaign.

But PM Modi didn’t address to the business community. PM Modi didn’t say a word to traders who sold the bicycles to poor labour migrants on usurious cost. PM Modi didn’t address to the grocery traders who are selling the cereals and pulses on massive profit margins. In Addition to that, PM Modi didn’t put a vision about - How Indian companies replace facebook and twitter? How Indian companies will make fighter jets so India will not need to import Rafale in future? How Will Indian companies produce solar cells to end the dependency on others for oil?

In the end, let me clear One thing that many people are confused. Many Compare (in fact find no difference) "Atmanirbhar Bharat" with the Gandhiji's concept of the "Swaraj". Gandhiji's Idea of Swaraj is quit wider - It’s about politics to economics to social implication. Even in the sphere of economics, Gandhiji's Idea of swaraj preaches that - Villages (and not only India) should be self-independent. Today Villages providing Wheat and Milk to cities and buying the manufactured products like tractors from cities. In Eyes of Gandhiji, it's no different than the Colonial economy of India, Where India provides cotton to Britain and Imports textiles form Britain.

By this long article, I don’t just want to criticize the Modi's Policies but I genuinely want that Government should make serious efforts to make India "Atmanirbhar". In Words of दुष्यंत कुमार: "सिर्फ हंगामा खड़ा करना मेरा मकसद नहीं मेरी कोशिश है कि ये सूरत बदलनी चाहिए". Policies and framework for the Grand vision of the "Atmanirbhara bharat" is not possible to discuss here. But there are three basic prerequisites to even think about "Atmanirbhar bharat"

• Political leadership- They have to lead from the front. They have to shift to Indian products( Including their PR terms) for a year and only then to lecture citizen about self-dependent India.

• Business fraternity - Should Provide quality product on affordable price

• Citizen - Have to forgo the consumerist culture. We have to reduce our needs. We have to learn to wear stitched clothes and shoes for some time. It will facilitate the industry to serve all needy at afforable rate.
