Why Gujjus have no option but to Support Modi ? ( From the lens of the Biden Bhai Greetings - Saal Mubarak)

Why Surat overwhelmingly Voted for the BJP in the 2017 assembly election even though the GST devastated the economy of Surat and pushed poverty to many? Why the peace-loving Gujju, Followers of Gandhi back the Right-wing BJP and Modi? Does Modi spend 3000 Cr. To construct the Statue of the Sardar to downsize the Nehru’s stature? There is no straightforward answer of such questions. Indian politics is full of complexity where voters have just one vote but multiple identities and interests pertain to the caste, Religion, Region etc.

 But Biden Bhai’s Greeting and its responses from India provide a window to decode the phenomenon. President-Elect USA wished Diwali and also Sal Mubarak on Twitter. Many Indians especially Right-wingers from North India trolled him for that. Overtly there are two types of trolling – (1) On word "Mubarak" and its link to Urdu, Arabic, or something. These trollers are mainly Right-wingers from Hindi Belt (2) Diwali is not a new year for India.

 I believed that the sole reason for trolling was only Category 2. Trollers of category 1 used a mask of the language/Communal to hide their intention as their supremo Mr. Modi also regularly wished New year with the same words – Sal Mubarak. Today also PM Modi tweeted Sal Mubarak. So Basically, Hindi Belt people don’t like that President of the USA wished the Gujarati!

Now Look at this Gentleman. There are millions of Indian who share such views. The reason for this narrowness is that – Historically the narrative of “India” shaped by the Hindi-speaking leaders. Do you know that at the famous college of Delhi, there are two menus in the canteen – Indian and South Indian? Isn’t this seditious? (Read the second time if you don’t grasp the seriousness!) Do you know that the School textbook of the Ladakh Mention that “Himalaya Situated in the North of India”? Does it make sense to the Kids of Ladakh?

Now, let me bring you to the original question- Why Gujjus Back Modi- Shah? To understand this, you have to go to history not ancient but Modern. Nehru is the father of Indian democracy. There are no two say on this. He contributed a lot to the Independence movement and also Post Independence. But the Equal truth is that – Patel was also equally if not more contributed than Nehru in the Independence movement. How Many of you hear about Maniben Patel? She was the daughter of Sardar Patel. She took part in the Freedom struggle. She was a Member of Parliament for two terms. But She was nowhere in the History books. There is an Intentional effort made by Lyutens liberals to Downsize Patel. The “Discourse” of Modern history has been set in such a way that there is no way left other than Downsize the Nehru by constructing the Rs.3000 Cr. Statue of the Unity of Patel to make people know about the contribution of the Patel. 

Now Let fast forward history by 20 years and comes to the 1970s. There was Morarjee Bhai Desai. After the death of Nehru and also after Shastri, he was the main contender for the Post of Prime Minister but He was denied. Furthermore, Indira Gandhi forced him to resign from the post of the Finance Minister. Remember, Shastri and Indira Gandhi Both Belong to Uttar Pradesh. (You can draw parallels with CM Yogi today. Though there is Established leadership in BJP, People of UP Desperate to see Yogi as PM which is also justified as he has numbers. But think about the scenario, How will people of the UP react if Modi Pass the leadership to some New Commer in 2029 belong to Gujarat and deny the Yogi ! The Same happed with Desai )

Now let’s once again fast-forward and Comes to the UPA rule of 2004 to 2013. There was no representation from Gujarat in Cabinet. There was Shankar Singh Vaghela in Council of Minister but it’s not as per the weightage of the Gujarat deserve.

Narendra Modi Represent the Discontent of the Gujjus for the 70 years of Ignorance. The victory of the Modi – Shah is a democratic revolt against the Hindi Belt Dominance. This is not the first revolt, In The 1970s – Gujjus Revolted and Desai became Prime Minister but this Experiment failed to sustain for long. Ironically the Lyutens Historian Give credit to the Bihar and Jayprakash Narayan for the Social-Political movement “Total Revolution” through which Desai became PM. But the truth is that the movement began in Gujarat as the “Nav Nirmab Aandolan”. The Timeline of the Total Revolution movement was that – Student of the Gujarat Revolted > JP visited Ahmedabad > Impress with the energy of the Students > Went to Bihar and ask students to revolt against Indira Gandhi. Another Irony is that Modi Started his political carrier with the same Nav Nirman Movement.

Now, the question may arise – Why Only Gujju revolted against the Hindi Belt dominance and no other community? There is a definite answer to this. Economically, Gujjus are Stronger than other communities.( Suit Boot Kee Sarkar is reality !) . There is another strong contender – Tamils but they are remain divided in DMK and AIDMK battle while Gujjus have only alternate of the BJP from Congress. But I strongly believe that the Next challenge to the Hindi Belt will come from Tamils.

Let me come back to Biden Bhai’s Wish – Saal Mubarak. Isn’t it a Matter of the Pride for the Hindi belt people that the President-elect of the USA wished the community of their own Nation - Gujjus? I as an Indian Feels proud of the dominance of Punjabi in Canadian society and Canadian state affairs. I as an Indian do not felt threaten/Vulnerable when India puts its Diplomatic weight for the Bihar Origin people's rights in Nepal (Though it Compromises the wider national interest). The Same goes for Tamil rights in Sri Lanka.

Mantra for Us should be Cherish Diversity and Equal power sharing! This is not an option but a necessity of ours to maintain unity with diversity. Sal Mubarak!
