Terrible famines took place during 1896-97 and 1899-1900 while bubonic plague broke out in Maharashtra killing thousands of Indians. The total a number of coronavirus cases in the country stood at 96,44,222. A total of 482 people died due to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed. With this, the coronavirus death toll in India climbed to 1,40,182.

The governments are collecting around 204 percent taxes on the base price of petrol, and 150 percent taxes on the base price of diesel.

 In Bihar, an average person had to spend 94 percent of daily state domestic product to buy a litre of petrol and in UP over 50 percent. In China, this was about 4 percent, Vietnam 8 percent and Pakistan 17 percent.
