Bengal partition 1905 : decoded




Reasons :-

1.)  Offcial reason :-

It was said that the existing province of Bengal was too big to be efficiently administered by a single provincial government. However, the officials who worked out the plan had also other political ends in view.

2.) Poltical reason :-

Bengal became the epic centre of the national movement  , so , by dividing Bengal , britishers hope to come down the severity of national movement

3.) Communal :-

By dividing Bengal on the base of hindu and muslim dominated base , britishers want to crate fiction between hindu and muslim

Partition :--

The Partition of Bengal in 1905 was made on October 16 by Viceroy Curzon. The former province of Bengal was divided into two new provinces

           (a) "Bengal" (comprising western Bengal as well as the province of Bihar and Orissa) and

           (b)"East Bengal and Assam" with Dacca (Dhaka) being the capital of the latter

Why eastern Bengali support partition ?

1.) Landlord and businessman  Hindus of west Bengal  ( West , after partition ) dominated over the poor people of eastern begal who were muslim in majority

2.) Most of industries were in west part and east part send raw material , eastern part was highly undeveloped , with partition , they hoped for development

3.) Construction  of new government  and education institutions set up in dhaka

After effects :-

1.) Swadeshi movement and boycott
 
2.) Start of communal base politics in india – All india muslim league and all india hindu mahasabha formed

3.)
In 1909, separate elections were established for Muslims and Hindus

Re-unification :-

1.)
Due to these political protests, the two parts of Bengal were reunited in 1911.

2.) A new partition which divided the province on linguistic, rather than religious grounds followed

3.) Bihar – hindi , Aasam – Assamese , Orissa-odiya
